Peter Obi’s camp slams Dalung over Plateau claim, says “it’s false”

The Peter Obi Media Reach, POMR, has dismissed claims by former Minister of Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, that the National Democratic Congress,  NDC, presidential candidate has not visited Plateau State since the 2023 elections.

In a statement signed by POMR Spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr, and released on July 21, 2026, the office described Dalung’s assertion as “false and unfounded” and urged the public to disregard it.

Dalung, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, had alleged that Obi, who ran on the Labour Party platform  in 2023, abandoned Plateau after receiving massive support and only resurfaced for election cycles.

POMR said the claim does not reflect reality. According to the statement, Obi has made several visits to Plateau since 2023, including two overnight stays that drew wide media and political attention.

The office noted that Obi’s trips have focused on Bokkos, Mangu, Bassa and Barkin Ladi — areas repeatedly hit by communal violence and insecurity.

“In response to ongoing communal violence and security issues, Obi has personally visited affected communities to offer condolences to victims and displaced persons,” POMR stated.

The statement added that Obi has visited internally displaced persons camps in Mangu and Bokkos multiple times, providing financial support, clean water programmes and relief supplies directly to families.

In one of the most cited visits, Obi marked his 62nd birthday in July 2023 with displaced communities in Mangu Local Government Area, foregoing formal celebrations.

Beyond humanitarian work, POMR said Obi has sustained engagement with traditional rulers, including the Gbong Gwom Jos, and with state officials. The office described this as proof of his continued political relevance in the North Central.

“Obi’s consistent presence in Plateau goes beyond routine political activities; it combines humanitarian efforts, direct interaction with his political support base, and a platform to draw attention to security challenges,” the statement read.

Concluding, POMR said Dalung’s remarks were without foundation and should be ignored.

“A new and truthful Nigeria is possible,” it added.
