The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State on Monday described the resignation of the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, as unfortunate.

The party however said that Ajayi’s decision would not affect prospect of its victory in the October 10 governorship election.

It however said it had yet to receive Ajayi’s letter of resignation.

Ajayi, according to reports, is heading to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) on whose platform he intends to actualize his governorship ambition.

Meanwhile, as he heads to ZLP, scores of the party’s members have reportedly declared their support for the candidature of the state governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

But smarting from Ajayi’s resignation, Ondo PDP said the Deputy Governor abused the welcome and privilege accorded him by its party supporters during his brief stay in the party.

State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, in a statement issued in Akure, said Ajayi’s resignation proved that he (Ajayi) was desperate to become the Governor of Ondo State.

According to the statement, “In the days to come, it will dawn on him that, he has squandered whatever was remaining in his good will with this decision.

“However, his exit from the PDP will not affect our prospects of winning the October Gubernatorial Elections this year.

“The PDP remains solid, strong and more determined than ever before to win the forthcoming governorship elections with a credible and competent candidate in the person of Eyitayo Jegede, SAN.”
