Stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party in Edo North have embarked on a massive protest against the planned impeachment of the state’s deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu by the State of Assembly.
The group0 loyal to the Deputy Governor, said the impeachment plan was satanic and coming from the points of weak people who had benefited greatly from Philip Shaibu.
According to the leader of the protesters: “We are bona fide registered and active members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
“We all are here today, moved by the need to subsume our precious political differences arising from the last Governorship Primary Exercise especially as we approach the state election in few months’ time.
“We are most perturbed by the fact that the recent gains at reconciliation of the differences arising from the last primaries are again least complicated by the Notice of Impeachment served on the state Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu by the Edo state House of Assembly.
“We have therefore, as serious stakeholders in the PDP project in our various local government and state resolved on the following:
“It is on this note we make our resolutions known to members of Edo State House of Assembly headed by the Speaker EDHA, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and all the PDP members of the House to urgently withdraw the impeachment notice issued by the house on his Excellency Deputy governor of Edo state for the sake of peace, unity, progress of the party in the pre governorship election time.
“We appeal to His Excellency the governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki to use his good office to prevail on the Speaker and the PDP of EDHA to urgently back track on the impeachment move against the Deputy Governor.
“Furthermore, that it should be on record that fallout of the recent governorship primaries in the state should be resolved with equity, justice and fair play. This is the only panacea for peace and progress in the party in Edo state.
“Edo State governorship election is very crucial in the state; we therefore appeal to all involved to desist and bury their differences and forge a common front to enable a humiliation of the opposition in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo state.
“Moreover, the withdrawal of the impeachment notice on the Deputy governor shall go a long way to heal the wounds of the divisions and exclusion in the party, galvanizing grassroots support for our eventual victory at the upcoming polls.
“However, PDP remains the party to beat in the state and in fact the party of continuity at Osadebe Avenue for only the needful as stated above done.”
