The Independent National Electoral Commission has declined to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, citing subsisting court judgements and unresolved legal tangles.
In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by the commission’s Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC said it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers purportedly elected at the PDP National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The electoral body explained that its decision was guided by existing court rulings and pending litigation arising from the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.
INEC said that recognising any factional national officers while the matter remained before the courts would be improper, stressing that due process must be allowed to run its full course before any action could be taken.
