PDP: Abah calls for judicial integrity as Wike's loyalties questioned
Barrister Humphrey Abah

A former minister has urged the judiciary to remain faithful to its constitutional mandate of upholding justice, particularly for the vulnerable and marginalised.

Humphrey Abah made the appeal amid the ongoing legal dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He argued that Justice James Omotosho should not have entertained the suit challenging the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led National Working Committee.

Abah maintained that although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not physically present at the convention, it had been duly notified, which he said should have been sufficient to validate the process.

He further alleged that the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike is not genuinely committed to the unity and progress of the party. According to him, it is contradictory for anyone who claims to seek the PDP’s emancipation to simultaneously align with and promote the interests of the ruling party.

Abah questioned how Wike could support the reelection bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu while remaining a prominent figure within the PDP, the platform on which he served two terms as governor and through which he rose to national prominence.

He described as troubling reports that Wike, a serving minister, allegedly procured 320 Hiace buses to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, warning that such actions undermine the PDP’s electoral prospects.

Abah concluded that Wike’s approach to peace efforts within the party suggests insincerity. He insisted that any genuine reconciliation process must be transparent, with clearly stated positions and demands. However, he emphasized that any proposal for the PDP to forgo presenting a presidential candidate and instead endorse President Tinubu for a second term would be firmly resisted.
