Former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, KSJI, on Tuesday, commiserated with the family of the Deputy Chief Whip of the 4th National Assembly (1999 – 2003) Senator, Gbenga Aluko, who died on Saturday at the age of 58.
In a statement in Benin, the Ex Senate Whip, who was also a member of the House of Representatives in the Second Republic, said his family received with sadness, the death of the dear colleague and brother who served as his Deputy during the 4th National Assembly.
Extending his heartfelt condolences to the Aluko family and the government and people of Ekiti State over the loss of one of its pillars, he said “we have lost a great man whose contributions to the growth and development of the Ekiti peoples and Nigeria can best be described as inspirational and worthy of emulation.
“The late Senator Aluko, a distinguished lawmaker and political strategist, will be remembered for redefining the place of service and patriotism in Nigeria’s development. He was a friendly and amiable person who exuded happiness and joy at all times.
“We spoke on wednesday the 17th November 2021 and were scheduled to meet later that evening in Abuja, but this unfortunately did not happen as a result of other engagements and we agreed to meet later that weekend. Sadly, this did not happen. He will be sorely missed by all and sundry whose lives he affected in many ways.
“During out time as members of the Body of Principal Officers of the National Assembly, he consistently displayed abiding commitment and indestructible faith in the unity and greatness of Nigeria and the role of Southern Nigeria in shaping the Nation’s development trajectory.
“My family and I extend our most profound condolences to the family of the late Distinguished Senator and Ekiti State, on the demise of a very accomplished Thought Leader.”
“May his soul rest in peace and may The Almighty God, in The Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of The Blessed Virgin Mary, preserve those he left behind in Jesus Name. Amen,” Senator Owie prayed.
