Osun State Head of Service, Mr Ayanleye Aina, has identified training and retraining as a major key to success in all human endeavours.

Mr. Aina made the assertion while declaring open a day induction/orientation programme organized by the State Local Government Service Commission for the newly converted Environmental Health Officers in the local government service.

Addressing the newly converted environmentalists, the most senior civil servant in Osun posited: “The world is not static, it is dynamic. In view of the fact that things are changing, you must therefore be constantly trained in order to be in tune with new ideas, new techniques, and new methods in your chosen profession.”

He further advised the new Environmental Health Officers to imbibe the public service ethics of hard work, honesty, and punctuality along with the rudiments of their new cadre so that they can go far in service.

While reminding them that they are field officers, the seasoned administrator counselled,”The field is your office, your office is outside. Go all out in the performance of your field services with a view to ensuring cleaniness and environmental health in all our villagers, towns, and cities.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Coordinating Director in the Commission, Barr.Lekan Babalola, who described the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as truly workers’ friendly appreciated him for his timely approval of the programme, while also appreciating the civil service boss for the role played in getting the programme approved.

While congratulating the officers on their elevation, which, according to him, makes them potential Permanent Secretaries or even Head of Service, Barr. Babalola charged them to reciprocate the kind gesture by giving their best to the service, advancing, “To whom much is given, much is expected.”

He therefore enjoined them to take advantage of the training session to update themselves on new trends in the public service and in their new career so that government expenses on the training would be fully maximized.

In his remarks, the President, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter, Sanitarian Ola Olufemi, who was represented by the Vice President of the Association, Sanitarian Titilayo Lawal lauded the State helmsman for his provision of 332 motorized boreholes, within his first 100 days in office, for the benefit of residents of the State.

Sanitarian Titilayo Lawal passionately prayed for God to sustain the governor in office with sound health, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to be able to continue his good works
Topics explored at the induction programme by three resource persons, Barr. Akin Babatola, Dr. Tope Akinwumi and Sanitarian Ayoade Ogungbenro, were: Ethics of the public service as it relates to local government service; Roles and Challenges of Environmental Health Officers on duty; as well as Professional Ethics, Mode of dressing and Approach to duty, respectively.
