All the recently-dissolved 69 All Progressives Congress (APC) party local government chairmen, including those of local council development areas and area offices in Osun State, have taken a fresh oath of office to signpost their retention as caretaker officers of their respective constituencies.
This followed the recent dissolution of all the administrative organs of the party across the nation.
Their retention was in consonance with the recent directive made by the national headquarters of the party in Abuja.
Administering the fresh oath of office at the state party secretariat in Osogbo, the immediate past state chairman of the party who was also sworn in as the state caretaker chairman of the party with fanfare in Abuja few days ago, Prince Gboyega Famodun, tasked the newly-sworn in local government APC party caretaker chairmen to be fair to all the party members and leaders in their day-to-day dealings with them in the interest of the fortune of the party in the state.
Famodun told the sworn-in caretaker local government APC chairmen that with their new status, it was imperative for them to prioritise activities that would favour and encourage the extension of the frontiers of the party with a determined purpose to positively complement the good governance being dished out by the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
In Famodun’s words: “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. This is the time for all of you, the caretaker party chairmen across this state, to double up all your administrative efforts to sustain peace and tranquillity in our party.
“While I am congratulating you all on your new status as fresh caretaker chairmen of our party in your various constituencies, it is important to impress it on you that you should not, for any reason, make your new status as a tool to cause division, crisis and acrimony within our party.
“Rather, this your new position and nomenclature should be a veritable instrument to unify the party by reaching out to all the disenchanted members of the party and woo them back into the fold.
“All the members of our party should be treated equally by you in your daily activities of running the affairs of our party.
“All of you here today are being returned as caretaker chairmen in tandem with the directive of the national secretariat of our party in Abuja.
“You shall all be guided on when you shall administer similar oath of office on the other party’s council and ward executive members in your various local government councils.
“It is equally important to impress it on you that there should be no addition or subtraction from the existing list of other council and ward executive members you are to administer oath of office on.
“Where there are vacancies for reasons of death, resignation or movement to another party, you should all liaise with the leaders and elders of our party to come up with an acceptable list. There is no room for unilateral generation of list by any affected local government caretaker party chairman.
“Don’t neither encourage nor initiate any division in our party with your action or inaction. Our party is one.
“The existing list of all the local government and ward executive members should not be tampered with for any reason. This directive is sacrosanct.
“Even your perceived enemies, if existing, among the local executive members should be sworn in in the interest of the fortune of our party.
“It is your expressed and implied duty to be a worthy instrument of ease of governance for the administration of our government under the watch of Governor Gboyega Oyetola,” the state caretaker chairman stated.
