Operation Hadin Kai hands over rescued civilians to Borno government

In a significant achievement, the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) handed over 277 rescued civilians, comprising 149 children and 128 women, to the Borno State Government on July 11, 2024, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

According to Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Theater Command Captain Reuben Kovangiya, this milestone underscored the Joint Task Force’s (JTF) dedication to restoring peace in the North East region.

Major General Waidi Shaibu, represented by Major General Kenneth Chigbu, highlighted the successful collaboration between OPHK, security agencies, and various stakeholders.

He commended the efforts of the State Government, local, and international NGOs, emphasizing the professionalism and adherence to international standards that made this achievement possible.

The rescued civilians, liberated from Bama, Dikwa, and Monguno, underwent medical examinations upon arrival to assess their health conditions.

General Shaibu extended his appreciation to the Governor of Borno State and other stakeholders for their unwavering support, urging remaining terrorists to surrender or face the military’s continued offensive.

Hajiya Aishatu Shetima, Director of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Women Affairs, representing the Commissioner for Women Affairs, expressed gratitude to the military.

She said that the rescued women and children would receive necessary social and humanitarian support at the Bulumkutu interim center before reintegration into their communities.

The event featured a symbolic handover and a group photograph, marking a significant step toward restoring hope and stability in the region.
