Ahead of the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State, 10 out of the participating 17 political have withdrawn from the governorship race and have declared their significant support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its standard bearer in the election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).
The 10 political parties, which disclosed this on Monday, are Accord Party, Action Alliance, Action Democratic Party, APGA, and AAC, APM, APP, NNPP, NRM, and SDP.
Speaking on behalf of the political parties at the PDP secretariat in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the Chair of Social Democratic Party, Prince Oladele Ogunbameru, said the decision was made at a meeting held on October 4, 2020 with the party leaders and chieftains of the PDP.
According to the SDP Chairman, the move was borne out of their commitment to good governance in the state.
They said they believed good governance could only be offered by the PDP.
Reacting to the development, the State chair of the PDP, Fatai Adams, said the support from the 10 political parties indicated acceptability of Jegede “which shows that the party will emerge victorious at the poll.”
