Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has dissolved the State cabinet ahead of the governorship succession race.
This was consequent upon the decision by some of them to nurse ambition to succeed him in 2023.
Those interested in the governorship race had reportedly intimated the governor with their plan.
Perhaps in a bid to stave off distractions and drawbacks from the business of governance, the governor decided to sack the entire cabinet including his Special Advisers to enable him bring on board persons without governorship ambition.
In fact, some members were reported to have privately gone to the Governor to indicate interest in his job in 2023.
Chief of Staff, Chief David Edevbie, Commissioner for Works, James Augoye and former SSG, Festus Agas, were reportedly some of the persons who privately informed the governor of their intention some weeks ago..
All special advisers, including the chief strategist of the Government and the senior political adviser were also affected.
Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, who himself was affected by the cabinet dissolution, made this known on Tuesday.
He was briefing journalists at the Government House, Asaba.
Read him: “It happened that the Exco today lasted a bit longer than we anticipated. Let me from the onset (outset) drop what may be the headline for today: the Exco has been dissolved.
“And so, I am the immediate past commissioner for information. All commissioners are to handover to permanent secretaries with immediate effect.
“All special advisers are also to handover to the person next to them, including the chief strategist of the Government, and of course, including the chief of staff, the SSG and the senior political adviser.”
