Rep. Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, representing the Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, says her seven-month representation has been worthwhile.
Ayoola-Elegbeji, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja, said her representation had resulted in the execution of people-centered projects for the good of Ogun citizens.
She said that her legislative interventions at the green chamber had resulted in the execution of more than 11 basic infrastructure projects for her constituents, in spite of challenges associated with project execution.
“For instance, there is a solar lighting project in Ikenne Local Government (LGA) specifically within Ikenne town itself.
“There are also constituency projects in Sagamu, including the construction of roads in Iwolo and another solar lighting project.
“Projects completed also include the rehabilitation of the health centre in Ibelefun, the rehabilitation of the health centre in Ogijo, High Court Road (Oko-Ada Road) rural electrification in Orile-Oko (Remo North LGA), and the construction of a modern abattoir in Sagamu, among others.
“We also have empowerment programmes that are set to commence within the next two weeks; I have spoken with the contractors and they are ready to proceed.
“In addition, I personally funded the grading of roads in Ward 14, Sagamu, where severe erosion had damaged the road network, ahead of the rainy season.
“Since contractors had not yet been mobilised due to funding delays, I sponsored palliative work to make the roads passable, until proper construction begins,” she said.
The lawmaker said had also sponsored a number of bills and motions within the period under review.
According to her, the School of Nursing and Allied Professionals, Ode Lemo/Emuren establishment bill and the establishment, enhancement of the Federal College of Agricultural Sciences at Orile-oko Remo North LGA are some of the bills.

“The creation of five additional LGAs within the Remo Federal Constituency and the creation of Ijebu-Remo State are also part of the intervention.”
The lawmaker listed some motions including a motion for rehabilitation of the dilapidated Ibere river bridge in Emuren Town.
She also mentioned the motion on the Ogijo lead poisoning crisis and motion on urgent need to construct pedestrian bridges on the ongoing Sagamu-Benin Expressway project as part of the achievements.
Ayoola-Elegbeji said her constituency lost many privileges after the passing of her predecessor, Adewunmi Onanuga.
She said that Onanuga’s innovative ways had been put in place to continue from where she stopped..
“I personally funded ecological studies and by the grace of God, three projects were captured under the ecological fund.”
The lawmaker urged all stakeholders in Ogun to join hands with her immediate constituents, who were in strong support for her re-election to the 11th House of Representatives in 2027 election.
“Remaining in office is important; so, I can follow through and ensure that those ongoing projects are funded and executed.
“I have also reached out to my constituents during Ramadan and Easter by distributing food palliatives to mosques and churches.
“We organised coaching classes for about 1,000 students; so, yes, I have been delivering for my constituents and I believe they appreciate it.
“We have the feedback; the videos and the evidence that they value what we have been doing, which is why they want me to continue.”
Ayoola-Elegbeji expressed the belief that the governor, as the leader of the party in the state, would also heed the yearnings of his constituents, who supported her election bid.
“We have a listening leader in Gov. Dapo Abiodun; he listens to the grassroots and to the hierarchy of the party.
”So, I truly believe, we will have the opportunity to present our case and believe he will do the right thing.’’
She called for improved support for women in politics, given the small number in the legislature.
“I believe there are only about 12 women in the House out of 360 members, and just three women from the Southwest caucus. I am the only female representative from Ogun.
“We are advocating for more women to join politics, by providing support to incumbent women lawmakers that are already providing robust legislative interventions for the good of the people.
“Those of us already here should be allowed to stay because we understand the system, we know the ropes and we can mentor incoming female legislators.
“By all means, we want more women, but the few women already serving should also be given the opportunity to continue,” she said.
Ayoola-Elegbeji said it had been a privilege to represent her people, adding that it remained a responsibility she cherished and would not take it for granted.
