Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has been appointed to the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) Executive Board, a move set to amplify Nigeria’s influence in Africa’s oil and gas sector.
The appointment, confirmed by a letter from Mrs. Philomena Ikoko on behalf of APPO Secretary General Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, was backed by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) and NCDMB Governing Council Chairman.
Dr. Ibrahim praised Ogbe, stating, “Your leadership is vital at this turning point for Africa’s energy ambitions.”
As Nigeria’s representative on the 18-member board, Ogbe will drive policies to boost local participation and secure funding, reducing reliance on foreign financiers. His role unites key players like Angola and Algeria to foster sustainable growth.
At NCDMB, Ogbe has championed local content through the African Local Content Roundtable (ALCR), making Nigeria’s framework a continental model.
His leadership has also advanced the Africa Energy Bank, set to launch in Abuja by June 2025, with Nigeria, Angola, and Ghana contributing 44% of its capital. “This bank will empower African energy projects.”
The bank aims to fund exploration and infrastructure, spurring jobs and innovation. NCDMB’s partnership with APPO has strengthened collaboration, with the ALCR driving policy alignment. Industry insiders call Ogbe’s appointment a “catalyst,” predicting it will propel Africa toward energy independence and global prominence.
