Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday unveiled _Journalism NeXt: A Comprehensive Guide to Modern Journalism_, a new book by Ediri Oyibo, editor of TheNewsGuru.
Represented by his Executive Assistant on Communication Strategy, Igho Akeregha, Oborevwori described the book as “rare” and praised Oyibo’s creativity.

“Deltans are very creative people, and that’s exactly what Ediri Oyibo has exhibited as the editor of one of Africa’s fastest growing digital platforms, TNG,” Akeregha said at the Abuja launch.
Former Edo State Governor Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, represented by veteran journalist Okoh Aihe, said the book would “make a remarkable difference in journalism” and serve mass communication students and practitioners.
Grace Ike, chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, commended Oyibo: “We are so proud of Ediri for taking us to greater heights of excellence. He is indeed a true representative of the council.”
Dr Dili Ezughah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council, was represented by Dan Ede, Director of Research and Documentation. “This is a timely publication that will go a long way in painting the right picture of journalism in Nigeria and beyond,” Ede said. “Ediri Oyibo has proven that journalists can create time to write books that elevate the profession.”
Dr Emman Shehu, Director of the International Institute of Journalism, IIJ, described Oyibo as a product of “extraordinary discipline.”
“It is a distinct pleasure to celebrate the academic and literary achievement of Ediri Oyibo,” Shehu said. “Seeing a student transition so seamlessly from the lecture halls of IIJ Abuja to the ranks of published authors is one of the most rewarding experiences for any educator.”
Shehu noted that Oyibo completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism at IIJ while pursuing a doctoral programme at the University of Abuja, alongside a senior editorial role and family responsibilities.
“At the IIJ, Ediri was a standard-bearer for academic integrity. In an era where many are tempted by the shortcuts of artificial intelligence, he remained a staunch advocate for original thought,” Shehu said.

He added that _Journalism NeXt_ provides “a localized roadmap for a profession in flux” by focusing on challenges faced by journalists in Abuja. “He doesn’t just theorize about the next phase of our craft. He analyzes it through the lens of our unique Nigerian reality.”
The book was reviewed by Dr Lemmy Ughegbe, journalist and advocate.
Dignitaries at the event included NCC Executive Vice Chairman Dr Aminu Maida, represented by spokesperson Nnenna Ukoha; NPC Executive Secretary Dr Dili Ezughah; NUJ FCT Chairman Grace Ike; former Governor Osunbor, represented by Okoh Aihe; and members of the IIJ Alumni Association.
