President of a Social Cultural group in the Niger Delta, Niger Delta Development Platform (NDDP), Chief Emuakpor Oghenekevbe, has berated Governor Godwin Obaseki for being in the forefront of governors and some self-styled political gladiators in the South South plotting to frustrate the President’s appointment of the board of the NDDC, which was announced since August 2019.
According to a statement issued in Effurun by the group “the political crisis rocking the APC in Edo State which has put Governor Obaseki on a life support over his second term ambition is the main reason he is rallying other selfish political gladiators in the south south like the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Godswill Akpabio who investigations have revealed he taken huge sums in bribe to set up an interim Management Committee for the NDDC when the President has already submitted names to the National Assembly for Confirmation in line with the NDDC Act”
They threatened that they would not hesitate to mobilise other groups outside Edo State against Governor Obaseki if he failed to refrain from pursuing anti-south south agenda with Akpabio and their cohorts.
They urged the President to relieve Akpabio of his appointment as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs or return the Sspervision of the NDDC to the Presidency as Akpabio’s unwarranted and illegal actions regarding the NDDC since he assumed office have demonstrated that he cannot responsibly exercise effective and patriotic supervision over the Commission.
Akpabio was also accused of pursuing personal agenda rather than key into Mr. Presiden’s programme for the Niger Delta.
Chief Emuakpor noted that “unless Mr. President takes urgent steps to restrain and curtail Sen Akpabio’s excesses, the Minister judging from his latest action and in collaboration with people like Obaseki will plunge the Niger Delta into serious turmoil.”
He advised all youths of the Niger Delta to resist Akpabio and his collaborators in his show of shame and disloyalty to the President.
