Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has expressed his dismay over the increasing number of homicide cases in the state.
To address this issue, the government has formed a committee in collaboration with security agencies to investigate and prevent further occurrences of such incidents in Edo.
Obaseki made this known to journalists after the monthly Security Council meeting at the Government House in Benin City.
The Security Council has also instructed the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to partner the state government to raid locations where drugs are being sold in Benin City and other areas of the state.
The governor stated that raids would be intensified in a few days at spots where hard drugs were being sold.
The Security Council meeting also reviewed the transportation sector, and the governor expressed concern about the poor state of federal roads in Edo.
He noted that the state might be cut off from other parts of the country if nothing was done urgently.
The Council resolved to send an urgent message to the federal authorities to repair the bad sections of the Auchi Road and Benin-Lagos Road, which were almost impassable.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankwara Muhammad, stated that the police were still on the trail of the killers of police officers in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the State.
According to him, “One suspect had been killed, while others are providing relevant information to assist the police in apprehending other members of the gang.”
He said: “The Edo State government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, and various measures are being put in place to achieve this objective.”
