Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said he had never shown anger or distraught to the Niger Delta region or any part of the country.
Obasanjo said this and more in response to Chief Edwin Clark’s accusation that his (Obasanjo’s) disdain and insincerity for the people of Niger Delta had not in any way reduced.
According to Obasanjo, he had always picked points on leadership performance or policies and he would continue to do so.
Obasanjo said even when a particular part of Nigeria decided not to vote for him (in the 1999 presidential election, which he won) and their leaders told him that in clear terms, he showed understanding and not anger or distraught and disabused their minds on what he believed they got wrong and in subsequent elections, they voted for him.
Obasanjo further stated that his records before, during and after the civil war in Niger Delta Region were without blemish and it was all goodwill to all the people of Nigeria and especially the people of the Niger Delta Region which was his theatre of operation during the Nigerian civil war.
