Smarting from increasing defections that have depleted its rank, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including its national chairman, Tanimu Turaki and ex-governors launched into a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday in Abeokuta.
Among the former governors in the meeting with Obasanjo are those of Niger and Plateau, Alhaji Muazu Babangida Aliyu and Senator Jonah Jang respectively.
Along with other senior party leaders, the PDP delegation arrived at the former president’s residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, about 11:38 am.
The PDP leaders subsequently proceeded for a private meeting with Obasanjo.
It was not clear as of press time, what the agenda of the meeting was, but there were indications that it might be about the state of the party and the 2027 election.
The meeting might have consisered reealignment of political forces in the opposition ranks against the ruling All Progressives Congress, which is already sold on pushing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
