There will be a solemn convergence of personalities, political leaders and academics today, Thursday, February 19, 2026, on the Conference Centre of the National Open University (NOUN) in Abuja at 12 noon for the public presentation of a book in honour of emeritus Professor of Philosophy, Godwin Sogolo on his 80th birthday.
The book, entitled: “Philosophy, Human Values and Development in Africa: Essays in Honour of Emeritus Professor Godwin Sogolo at 80”, is a collection of scholarly essays contributed by his former students, mentees, and colleagues.
It is prefaced by a foreword written by His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, a graduate of Philosophy and former Executive Governor of Anambra State.
The event holds under the distinguished chairmanship of the pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, NOUN, His Excellency Malam Isa Yuguda with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is the first NOUN PhD graduate, playing the role of father of the day.

Special Guests of Honour include Mr Peter Obi; Senator Monday Okpebholo (Edo State Governor); Rt. Hon Elder Sherrif Oborevwori (Delta State Governor); and Sir Monday Onyeme (Deputy Governor of Delta State).
The event will be hosted by Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma and co-hosted by Head of the Department of Philosophy at the Unive4rsity of Ibadan, Professor Tade Adegbindin and Head of the Department of Philosophy at NOUN, Dr Hele Olojede.
The scholarly book will be reviewed by the Director General of the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, Professor Eghosa E. Osaghae.
