In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this initiative also included the commencement of a comprehensive training programme for State Coordinators of the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) and selected Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) nationwide.
The unveiling ceremony and launch of the training programme took place at the Goodluck Jonathan International Peacekeeping Hall, located at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.
The event marked a significant milestone in the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the security of educational environments, ensuring a conducive atmosphere for learning for children and young adults throughout the nation.
During the ceremony, IGP Egbetokun highlighted the primary objective of the training programme, which is to equip State Coordinators and Divisional Police Officers from all thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with comprehensive knowledge regarding the Police’s role in the National Plan for Safe Schools in Nigeria.
The training aims to facilitate the development of a strategic roadmap for collaboration with various stakeholders to bolster security measures in educational institutions.

This includes optimizing both human and material resources to effectively combat crimes, particularly those targeting schools.
Mrs. Halima Iliya, the National Coordinator for Financing Safe Schools, emphasized the importance of building the capacities of security personnel, school communities, stakeholders, students, and staff to ensure the successful implementation of the National Plan.
The event witnessed the participation of representatives from relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, alongside members of the Force Management Team, Senior Police Officers, and other distinguished guests.
IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget & National Planning for spearheading the “Financing Safe Schools National Plan” and acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders towards achieving this significant milestone.
He urged the officers nominated for the capacity-building training to leverage the knowledge gained to enhance the effectiveness of the School Protection Squad in their respective commands.
