The Nigeria Police Force has promoted 228 officers from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Bayelsa State Command.
State Commissioner of Police Daniel Iyamah Edobor announced the promotions during the formal decoration ceremony at the State Officers’ Mess.
He described the Bayelsa figure as the command’s share of the larger national promotion exercise.Edobor urged the newly promoted officers to view their elevation as a call to greater responsibility.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said. “More promotion means more work. If you want confirmation and further advancement, you must put in more effort.”
He also charged the entire command, including rank-and-file personnel, to see the promotions as motivation to uphold discipline.
Edobor warned against indiscipline, corruption, extortion, and violations of citizens’ rights.
“You must obey orders and directives, respect human rights, and shun any action that contravenes police rules.
“Be civil to the public, avoid corruption and extortion.”
One of the promoted officers, ASP Gabriel Yenegue, expressed gratitude to the police leadership and the Bayelsa Command for the recognition.
He pledged that the newly elevated ASPs would rededicate themselves to maintaining law and order.
