The Northern Youth Peace Ambassadors (NYPA) has conferred its Iconic Leadership Award and National Peace Ambassador title on the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen.
This is contained in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by the Public Relations Officer in the command DSC Duza Adamu.
Adamu said the award was presented during a courtesy visit by the NYPA Executive Council to the controller in Abuja.
He said the delegation was led by NYPA National President, Abdulmalik Usman, in fulfilment of a resolution reached at the organisation’s Peace Summit on Aug. 1.

He said Usman described Jen as a symbol of peace, integrity and pragmatic leadership while presenting the award.
Usman said that the recognition was also in appreciation of the controller’s humanistic approach to correctional administration and his contributions to national development.

“Your leadership exemplifies service to humanity. We are here to emulate your leadership pragmatism,” he said.
He added that the award was intended to appreciate Jen’s positive tenacity and encourage him to greater productivity in national service.
He explained that the NYPA, an umbrella body for youths across the 19 northern states and the FCT, remained committed to recognising Nigerians making positive impacts.
He said the organisation’s activities were guided by its motto, “Peace For All”.
Responding, Jen expressed appreciation to NYPA for the honour and dedicated the award to inmates whom he fondly referred to as his “precious children”.
He also dedicated the recognition to the officers and men of the FCT command for their commitment to the service.
Jen reaffirmed his commitment to the core mandate of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
He stressed that meaningful youth participation in peace-building was critical to strengthening national security.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the award plaque and Peace Ambassador sash to Jen by the NYPA national president.
