The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has condemned the assassination of Dr Uyi Iluobe, a medical doctor, in Oghara, Delta State over death of a patient.

The patient was said to have died of gun shot injuries.

In a statement on Monday, signed by Dr Uche Ejinmah, president of the association, Dr Iluobe was said to have been killed on December 31, by relatives of the patient in yet to be ascertain circumstances.

However, the NMA said it was unfortunate that Dr Iluobe died in the course of duty, and called on the Delta state government and the Inspector General of Police to investigate his death and bring the perpetrators to book.

The statement said there was no justification for violence against health workers, especially in the face of brain drain affecting the sector across the country.
