The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed dismay over some antidotes proposed by the Governors’ Forum to the nation’s ailing economy.
In a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Chief of Staff to the President, as response to the governors’ proposal, the union said it was appalled by the prescription that fuel subsidy should be scrapped immediately, among other suggestions, to turn around the fortunes of the nation’s economy.
The letter, dated August 8, 2022, said though the body agreed that the economy was in dire need of surgical operation, some of the prescriptions by the governor’s “smack of extreme selfishness and insensate cruelty.”
The NLC observed that the removal of fuel subsidy as suggested by the governors was unrealistic, insensitive and hypocritical at a time many Nigerians were suffering from hyper inflation.
