NJC recommends appointment of 64 judges across country

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has announced the recommendation of 64 persons for appointment in the various states’ judiciary in the country.

The appointments were announced in a statement signed by Soji Oye, Director, Information, NJC on Friday.

In the statement, Oye said the NJC “at its 96th Meeting of 14 and 15 December 2021 considered the list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee and at the end of deliberation, the council recommended the under-listed names of Sixty-four successful candidates to their various state governors for appointment.”

The statement said the 64 successful candidates recommended to some state governors for appointment as judicial officers was part of concerted efforts to fast track justice delivery in the country.

Those recommended are Justice Ozoemena Raymond Afojulu as Chief Judge of Enugu, Justice Nathan Musa as Chief Judge of Adamawa, Kadi Abubakar Musa Mohammed Kigera as Grand Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal for Niger State and Kadi Usman Aliyu Girei as Grand Kadi of Adamawa state.

Others are Justice Shiyanbola Raheem Akanbi as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Eneji Maurice Odey, as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Cross Rivers and Wajilda Peter as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Adamawa state, Justice O. I. Nwamoh as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Abia State and Justice Blessing Lyop Dalyop as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Pleateau state.

The statement indicated that five persons were recommended as judges for Sokoto state high court.

They are Sanusi Shehu, Mu’awiya Dahiru Mahmud, Abubakar Abubakar Zaki, Mohammad Aliyu Sambo and Maryam Muhammad

Those sought to be appointed for Nasarawa state high court are Isa Ebini Kana,n, Ali Tari Changbo, Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shama and Solomon Wayidna Ayenajeh.

Ogun state high court has two, and they are Adeyemi Adekunle Adewole and Bello Safrat Titilayo while Bayelsa state has four and are Lockie James Benimo, Zuofa Ama Patience, Simon Warikiyei Amaduobogha and Christine Irigha Kombo-Enegesi

The statement indicated that 14 persons are to be appointed as judges in Lagos and they are Okunuga Olubusola Adeyemi, Adeyemi Adenrera Olayinka, Oshin Olufolake, Olufolasade, Esq. Odusanya Oluwatoyin Atinuke Martins Olumuyiwa Oluseun and Ariyike Mutiat Ipaye-Nwachukwu.

The rest are Babatunde Oladepo Kalaro, Awope Omolade Jadesola, Akinkunmi Olusegun Idowu, Oresanya Olalekan Ayodeji, Oshodi Mujibat Iyabode, Ijelu Ismail Olalekan, Balogun Mosunmola Muyibat, and Mathias Oluwole Dawodu.

Rivers State has four and they are Popnen Sylvester Sunday, Daketima Gabriel Kio, Nsirim Chinwe Amanda and Chinelo Chidubem Odili

Similarly, Ekiti state has four and they include Apuabi Johnson Ariyibi, Blessing Oluwabukola Ajileye, Olalekan Olayinka Olatawura and Oyinkansola Olumayowa Oluboyede

Two Kadis were recommended for Sharia Court of Appeal in Sokoto and they are Buhari Yahaya and Umar Jibril Kebbe while Katsina has one in person of Kabir Hamisu Bello and Jigawa with three and are Bara’u Bashir Musa, Ahmad Muhammadu Lamin and Nasiru Abubakar Zargina just as Ebonyi has one in Awada Paul Mgbada

Three Judges were recommended for Ogun state Customary Court of Appeal and they are Olukemi Folasade Osisanya, Odugbesan Idowu Adebiyi and Akinsinde Oluwasina Philip.

Cross River state Customary Court of Appeal has four slots and they are Obo Agbor Anthony, BItitim Felix Igob, Eunice Oshim Dada and Ankpor Jeremiah Arong.

While Cross River high court also has four, including Daniel Ofre Kulo, Rita Otu Marshall, Odibu Emmanuel Ekaya and Obin Blessing Egwu

The statement said that all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval by their respective state governors and the respective State Houses of Assembly, as the case may be.
