A former Senator who represented Edo South in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2003, Roland Owie, has counselled members of the upper house to disregard the list of members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) sent to them for consideration by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The list of members of board, if considered, according to Senator Owie, would be a disgraceful act to members of the house and insult to the institution.

“I urge my colleagues Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not to disgrace themselves and the Institution of the Senate by considering the President’s new NDDC board nominees,” he advised.

He noted that if the Senate agreed to consider the new list of NDDC board members sent to it by the President, after having cleared the earlier list sent to it by the President in 2019, the institution of the Senate would be brought to disrepute and disgrace.

He stated: “The Senate should tell Mr President to swear in the nominees earlier screened and if the President likes, he can dissolve the board a day after and send a new list.

“It is after that is done before the Senate can accept new nominees.

“You, current Senators, will serve and leave the scene and many more Senators will come after you, as others had come before you.

“Please do not destroy the norms and tradition of the Senate.

“May God bless you all,” he added.
