The Nigerian Meteorological, NiMet, Agency has been awarded the coveted International Standard Organization ISO 9001: 2015 and (ISO) 29990: 2010 certificate for the provision of aeronautical meteorological services at the airports and capacity-building at its regional training centre in Lagos.

The award came after a successful rigorous maintenance audit was carried out on airports and the regional training school by the ISO through CERTECH earlier this year, which was done at the instance of NiMet.

The Director General/CEO of NiMer, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, who disclosed this while presenting the certifications to the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, also underscored the necessity for the exercise.

“The International Standard Organization (ISO) requires that all services providers and training institutions in the world should subject themselves to periodic auditing to qualify for issuance of the appropriate certificate.

“This is to ensure effectiveness and excellence in the quality of service rendered to all relevant clients,” he said.

Prof Matazu explained that it was based on this that NiMet invited the ISO through CERTECH and subjected the Agency’s services at the regional training centre in Lagos as well as its services across the nation’s airports to a rigorous audit process for the certification.

The certification award, which is valid for one year, will promote the relevance and visibility of NiMer not only in Nigeria, but also in the international community.

Prof. Matazu appreciated the Minister, Hadi Sirika and the Federal Government for providing the resources, guidance and support that enabled NiMet to successfully attain the certification.

He pledged that with continuous support, his Agency would remain committed to achieving excellent service delivery.

The Minister congratulated NiMet for the great feat it had achieved.

He said the credit for the achievement “goes to the present administration that provided all the support and resources needed to NiMet to ensure effective service delivery and well-trained meteorologists as well as meteorological technicians.”

The Minister promised to formally present the awards, and those won by other agencies of the Ministry, to President Muhammadu Buhari at a convenient time.

According to him, the planned presentation to the President was to appreciate his unalloyed support for the Aviation sector and to know that the support has been yielding dividends.
