Jerry Gana says Peter Obi on PDP platfotm will defeat any Northern candidate in 2027Scrabble players from across Nigeria will converge on Yenagoa, Bayelsa State’s capital, this weekend for the fifth Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship.
The two-day event, set for August 2-3, will be held at the Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Government House, Yenagoa.
The championship, a cornerstone of the Nigerian Scrabble Federation (NSF) calendar, is expected to attract over 200 participants.
Daniel Alabrah, chairman of the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association (BYSA), said the tournament, launched in 2021, has grown into Nigeria’s premier Scrabble event.
This year’s competition will showcase top players from the Nigerian and African Scrabble circuits, including world and continental champions.
Alabrah highlighted the event’s prestige, noting that the local organizing committee is ready to host a fiercely competitive tournament featuring elite talent.
The championship’s prize pool exceeds N10 million, with the Masters category winner claiming N1 million.
Additional cash prizes will be awarded to top performers in the Intermediate, Veterans, Open, and Student categories, as well as to the highest-ranking female players, ensuring recognition across diverse skill levels and groups.
“The Governor Diri Classic raises the bar annually, drawing elite players and offering substantial rewards,” Alabrah said.
“This championship not only celebrates Scrabble excellence but also builds a vibrant community of competitors nationwide.”
