Nigerian Army warns against threat to national integrity, as troops’ effort increases crude oil production in Nigeria

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has cautioned criminal elements and fifth columnists against engaging in activities that could jeopardize the nation’s integrity.

According to Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya gave this warning on April 3, 2023, during the COAS First Quarter Conference 2023 at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.

The COAS emphasized that the conference provided an opportunity to review NA operations in the first quarter and develop practical strategies to enhance troop performance in ongoing operations nationwide.

General Yahaya attributed the NA’s significant achievements in the first quarter of the year to the implementation of far-reaching decisions made during the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2022 in Sokoto.

He disclosed that the NA’s performance during Operation SAFE CONDUCT had earned recognition from reputable global and local organizations.

He also highlighted other achievements, including the operationalization of maneuver brigades nationwide, enhanced Civil-Military Cooperation activities, infrastructural development across NA formations, the procurement of modern platforms and improved training aids, and the establishment of a Department of Personnel Management to manage soldiers’ careers.

The COAS commended the commitment of troops and their collaboration with sister services and other security agencies in incrementally increasing crude oil production to about 1.3 million barrels per day, as confirmed by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

He noted that their dedication had denied terrorists and insurgents freedom of action, resulting in a massive surrender of BH/ISWAP terrorists in the northeast.

He urged the officers and men of the NA to remain steadfast and expressed his appreciation to the President for his strategic guidance and direction.
In his welcome address, Major General Anthony Omozoje, the Chief of Policy and Plan (Army), acknowledged the visionary leadership of the NA and the collective commitment and professional disposition of troops, which have contributed to their operational successes.

The COAS also presented 14 new Toyota Hilux vehicles to Army Warrant Officers who have achieved the pinnacle of their soldiering careers and commissioned the Faruk Yahaya Historical Park located in Manbilla Barracks, Asokoro Abuja.

The conference also showcased the NA’s research and development efforts through an exhibition.
