In a decisive operation against banditry and terrorism, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) successfully neutralized a notorious terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition in Taraba State on July 29, 2024.
In a statement, Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations Captain Olubodunde Oni said the operation took place on Road Gbeji-Afia, near the border with Ukum Local Government Area.
He said the troops encountered armed terrorists on a motorcycle during a fighting patrol.
Following an intense firefight, the soldiers neutralized one terrorist while others fled into the bush with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two mobile phones, and assorted charms.
Oni added that the neutralized terrorist was identified as Odumegu, the second-in-command to Fullfire, a notorious gang leader in Taraba and Benue States, who had been on the security agencies’ wanted list.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their dedication and reiterated the brigade’s commitment to eradicating terrorist enclaves in the region.
He thanked the local communities for their support and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Army to ensure the safety and security of residents in Taraba State and beyond.
