Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), successfully thwarted a planned banditry attack in southern Taraba State on December 11, 2024.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a series of proactive operations, including patrols, ambushes, and covert manoeuvres, to disrupt the impending threat.
In a statement, Acting Assistant Director 6 Brigade Army Public Relations Captain Olubodunde Oni said during the operation, two suspects, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, were apprehended in Adu village. The suspects were reportedly en route to the Chachanji market, allegedly to carry out criminal activities such as kidnapping.
The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover details about their network and activities.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to combating terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities in the region.
He also expressed gratitude to residents for their cooperation and urged them to continue providing timely and credible information. “Together, we can achieve a safer and more secure nation,” he stated.
