In a determined effort to enhance security during the harvest season and forthcoming yuletide, the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has intensified clearance operations across multiple bandit hideouts in Taraba State.
The operation is being spearheaded by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.
Confirming the development, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, disclosed that the mission, codenamed Operation Golden Peace, commenced on November 28, 2024, in Takum Local Government Area (LGA).
The initial phase focused on neutralizing bandit enclaves around Lijem High Ground, with operations extending to Vingiri and Vingir villages, thereby restoring security and boosting local residents’ confidence.
Captain Oni further reported that on November 29 and 30, the troops advanced into Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages.
During this phase, they engaged and overwhelmed bandits associated with the notorious criminal leader Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, alias “Boujogh,” following a fierce gun battle at New Gboko and Che Adekpe camps, forcing the criminals to flee.
As part of the operation, several bandit camps were destroyed, and the troops recovered 27 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, a Baofeng handheld radio, and two motorcycles.
To further consolidate security, the Brigade extended its presence to Akume and Ananum areas in Donga LGA on November 30, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Taraba State.
Brigadier General Uwa expressed his appreciation for the cooperation and support from local communities and urged them to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies.
“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” he said.
