Nigerian Army to investigate alleged killing of locals, cattle in Kaduna

The Nigerian Army has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation following reports alleging that troops from the 1 Division were involved in the killing of three individuals and over 100 cattle during a recent operation in Sabon Birni, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Disturbing images and videos circulating on both mainstream and social media platforms had brought the incident to the Army’s attention.

In a statement issued by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the Nigerian Army expressed sympathy for the Sabon Birni community and the families affected by the incident.

The Army assured the public that the allegations would be fully investigated, and any personnel found responsible would face appropriate sanctions.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the immediate and remote causes of the incident and to identify those involved.

The Army, which is constitutionally mandated to protect the lives and property of citizens, emphasized its commitment to upholding this responsibility and condemned any actions contrary to this mandate.

The Nigerian Army has called for calm and assured the public that the findings of the investigation will be made public once concluded.
