The Nigerian Army has strongly condemned the brutal treatment of ex-soldier Corporal Toriola Adewale, who was tortured in a disturbing video circulated by Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of IPOB.
The footage, which has sparked outrage, shows Adewale, who retired honorably from the Nigerian Army six years ago, being subjected to inhumane treatment by members of the IPOB/Biafra Liberation Army.
In a statement Director, Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said in the video, Corporal Adewale was coerced into delivering false messages to active military personnel, urging them to abandon their constitutional duties.
He was also forced to falsely claim that he was treated well during his captivity.
The Army refuted IPOB’s claim that Adewale is still an active soldier, labeling it as malicious propaganda intended to justify the group’s criminal actions.
“This outrageous propaganda by IPOB is an attempt to justify their savage mistreatment of a defenseless, law-abiding citizen who served his country meritoriously,” the Army stated.
The Army also called for the international community to condemn these acts of terror in the strongest terms.
The Nigerian Army urged Nigerians to disregard the video and stand united against the actions of IPOB, a group labeled as a terrorist organization.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all citizens, particularly those in the South East, and highlighted its ongoing operations aimed at eradicating terrorism and insurgency in the region.
The Army also called on international organizations such as Amnesty International and the International Criminal Court to take immediate action against Simon Ekpa and IPOB’s leadership for their crimes against innocent Nigerians.
“Justice will soon catch up with them,” the statement declared, stressing that the Army will remain vigilant in safeguarding both its active and retired personnel from terror.
