The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced airlift operations to deliver essential relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri and surrounding communities.

According to Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the airlifts, part of NAF’s Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA) role, began on September 14, 2024, following donations from the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) aimed at alleviating the hardships caused by the floods, which have displaced millions and damaged property.

The first batch of relief supplies, including 300 bags of 50kg rice, was successfully airlifted to NAF Base Maiduguri via a NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Upon arrival, Air Commodore UU Idris, the Air Component Commander, handed the materials over to Alhaji Tukur Ibrahim, Commissioner for Inter-Governmental and Special Duties, in the presence of MD Malah, Comptroller of the NCS.

The relief items were then transported to the Borno State Government House for distribution.

In addition to the airlift operations, NAF has launched a medical outreach program to assist flood victims.

This initiative includes providing food, water, medications, and other essentials to over 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the disaster.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal HB Abubakar, has directed the continuation of these operations as necessary to ensure timely and effective delivery of relief to affected areas.

NAF remains committed to collaborating with other security agencies to mobilize resources in support of national disaster relief efforts.
