• Sanctions imposed on erring officers, senior officers face disciplinary hearings
Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has reinforced his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline.
This in keeping fidelity to his commitment to a robust effort to maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity within the Police Force.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said emphasizing the mandate of the police to serve and protect with honor, Egbetokun stressed that any breach of core values would be met with decisive action to uphold public trust and justice.
“All reported cases of misconduct have been addressed promptly, with appropriate sanctions imposed.
“Several officers have faced disciplinary measures, including dismissal and demotion.
“For instance, Police Inspector Adabo Mohammed was dismissed for involvement in criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and kidnapping.
“Mohammed, part of an armed robbery gang, was implicated in the robbery of ₦29.8 million in Gwagwalada and the kidnapping of Ikechukwu Emmanuel Okafor, for which a ransom of ₦4.4 million was collected.
“He has been charged to court.
Additionally, Inspectors Osagie Efford, Semiu Agbekin, and Francis Ahuen, from the Special Tactical Squad, were demoted to Sergeants for extorting ₦29.4 million from motorists in Abuja.
“The case, highlighted by Harrison Gwamnishu on social media, was thoroughly investigated, leading to the restitution of the extorted funds and the officers’ demotion following an orderly room trial,” he said.
“In a bid to enforce accountability at all levels, several senior officers are undergoing Force Disciplinary Committee hearings to scrutinize and address allegations of misconduct.
“This is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing internal oversight, improving ethics and community policing training, and ensuring transparency in disciplinary processes.
“The Inspector General assures the public of the seriousness of these measures, reaffirming the NPF’s commitment to a culture of accountability and respect across all ranks,” he added.
