Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), an umbrella body of airline operators in the country, has expressed dismay at the comments of Senator Smart Adeyemi, chairman, Senate Committe on Aviation, who bemoaned the poor attitude of airline operators in the country.
Senator Adeyemi had while on oversight visit to Lagos recently said that airline operators had failed to sit up, saying foreign airlines might be invited to take local routes over incessant delays and cancellations of flights by local airlines.
However, in a statement signed by nine airline operators in the country, including Max, United Nigeria, Ibom, Arik, Aero Contractors, Air Peace, Azman, Overland, Green Africa and Dana Airlines, said Adeyemi’s comments were capable of sending the wrong signals to air passengers and the public.
The operators disclosed that airline business in Nigeria was plagued by multi-sectoral problems which most of the time were beyond them.
