A former Governor of Enugu State and Senator representing Enugu East in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, has canvassed inclusiveness, justice, equity and fairness in the country, saying that they are the needed ingredients for national peace, unity and progress.

He said peace and unity were the products of justice, fairness and equity.

Senator Nnamani, in a goodwill message to Nigerians to mark the nation’s 62nd Independence anniversary, urged leaders at all levels to make the citizens the centre of all their programmes and policies.

As campaigns for the 2023 general elections gather momentum, he urged public office seekers to put the unity and peace of Nigeria above personal ambitions.

The Senator cautioned against resort to issues like ethnic or religious affiliation during campaigns that might put asunder the cohesion and corporate existence of the country, pointing out that “there must be a country before personal ambition can be realized“.

He said all hands must be on deck to build national cohesion that guarantees freedom and wellbeing of all.

He also harped on the need to strengthen the security architecture of the country, pointing out that an insecure nation could neither assure the safety of its citizens nor engender growth and development of the country.

Senator Nnamani lamented that virtually every part of the country was under siege, threatened by terrorists and bandits, lamenting that “no one is truly safe in his or her home, schools, worship centers, places of works and on the roads anymore.“

Canvassing free, fair and credible elections, he reiterated that efforts must be geared towards security to guarantee an unhindered or unimpeded conduct at the forthcoming polls.

He also urged the political class and all stakeholders to abide by the rules of the game to ensure that the 2023 elections produce the choice(s) of the people.

He wished Nigerians a happy independence celebration.
