Reach Out Africa Charity Initiative, a nonprofit organisation has harped on the need to empower young people with the necessary skills to tackle unemployment.
Mrs Princess Nkoyo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Initiative, made the call on Saturday at youth empowerment training, in Abuja.
According to her, it is very important to train and empower the young people and women in order to contribute positively to society and the nation.
She also added that it was important to provide young people with the necessary skills, training, and resources to enter the workforce and become self-reliant.
“There is a need for tailored programmes that focus on entrepreneurship, vocational training, and mentorship to equip young individuals with the tools needed to succeed in a competitive job market.’’
Nkoyo also stressed the significance of creating an enabling environment that supported youth innovation and creativity.
On his part, Director-General of SMEDA, Mr Charles Odii, reiterated the agency’s commitment to work towards a future, where young people are empowered to pave their own path for economic independence and prosperity.
Odii represented by Mrs Hamza Ruth from SMEDAN highlighted the “mind shift” programme that the agency was conducting to encourage students from primary to tertiary institutions in explore entrepreneurship opportunities.
According to him, this will enable poverty reduction and skill development.
“By investing in youth empowerment initiatives, we believe that we can make a tangible impact on reducing unemployment rates and building a more sustainable future for generations to come,”he added.
