NGO donates food to IDPs in Borno for Ramadan

Internally displaced persons in Borno State are to receive food items to allow them have seamless Ramadan.

The donation is coming from Baba For All (BFA), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) linked to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum while flagging of the distribution at Muna IDPs camp, Maiduguri, said the gesture came at the right time, as Muslim faithful who are observing the Holy month of Ramadan, fasting are in dire need of support.

Zulum, who said the state government was doing its best to take care of IDPs as well as manage the insecurity bedevilling the state, said the task was huge for government to take up the responsibility alone, hence he called on good spirited individual to “come out and help.”

He said: “When I took over the mantle of leadership, the present administration inherited a total of two million IDPs. Presently, we have 25 formal camps and 35 non- formal camps, on a serious note, government is founding it very difficult to provide food for this quantum number of our IDPs.”

In his address, the National Coordinator of ‘Baba For All’, Alhaji Aminu Sani said the foundation was made up of sponsors from serving and former House of Representatives who were loyal to President Buhari since 2003.

He added that the NGO had Chairmen in each of the 36 states of the federation including Abuja, while in Borno, the NGO is headed by member representing Kaga, Gubio and Magumeri federal constituency, Hon Usman Zanna.

He said these group of Buhari’s loyalists, contributed from their pockets to fund BFA, and better the life of the masses, especially vulnerable groups who had been supportive of President Buhari.

Sani said the NGO had procured 20 trucks of 50/25 kilogrammes bags of rice, 10 trucks of 50/25 kilogrammes bags of maize and millet for onward distribution to 60,000 IDPs in Borno, even as a total of 500,000 beneficiaries were earmarked for the same support nationwide.

BFA, he said, was an NGO that waz coming at a time President Buhari was about to exit from office, adding that, with committed membership, “the NGO is determined to touch the lives of the vulnerable groups in the society which will not only be in food intervention, but also in education, health, agriculture and other sectors of the economy.”

In a vote of thanks, the Director General, Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Yabawa Kolo expressed appreciation to BFA.

Kolo who said said the gesture came at a time IDPs in the state were observing Ramadan fasting, assured them that the items donated would be judiciously and transparently distributed to the beneficiaries.
