Netherlands, EU delegation visits Borno, pledges support for stabilization efforts

A high-level delegation from the Netherlands and the European Union (EU), led by the Dutch Ambassador to Nigeria and Chad, Wouter Plomp, visited the Headquarters of Theatre Command (TC) in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, stated that the delegation aimed to engage with local stakeholders, including the Armed Forces, to gain insights into the ongoing stabilization efforts in Borno State.

The delegation was received by Major General Waidi Shaibu, Theatre Commander, who expressed appreciation for their partnership in addressing the complex security challenges in the region.

He highlighted that the mandate of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) is to restore normalcy in the North East and create a conducive environment for socio-economic activities.

Ambassador Plomp commended the military for their stabilization efforts and assured the delegation’s support for achieving lasting peace.

Other delegation members praised the military’s work and pledged to escalate their support to help achieve the desired peace in the region.
During the visit, Chief J9 Captain (NN) MA Abdullahi presented a briefing on the challenges faced by conflict-affected communities in the North East and proposed solutions. Major General Shaibu solicited support for the replication of the Ngalaram model of community resettlement across Borno State’s three senatorial districts, aiming to promote community-led resettlement of displaced persons and foster sustainable peace.

This visit underscores the Netherlands and EU’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts in addressing the humanitarian crisis and promoting stability in the North East.

The visit concluded with an interactive session, signing of the visitor’s book, presentation of a plaque, and a group photograph.
