Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has gifted One hundred million naira to Edo Queens Football Club for emerging champions of the just concluded CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers in Côte D’Ivoire, according to a report by BSNSports.com.ng
The governor rewarded the team during a Red Carpet reception held in honour of the victorious Queens at the government House Benin-City.
According to him, “This is a season of joy for the good people of Edo State. You know we are in a celebration mood, because we are marking the 33 years of Edo State as one united people.
“Today, Edo Queens is here to add to our happiness. In fact, I don’t know what to say, than to say a big thank you to God for what we have been doing since we came on board is fast yielding good dividends.
“When we came in 2016, nobody gave Edo women a chance, all we hear people talk about our girls is nothing but negative stories. When I saw it, I told myself that we were going to change the narratives, and today, I am happy with what the positive results we are getting in all sector of our economy.
“This is not a speech making event, I have come here to say a big thank you to everyone that has made this mission possible.
“I don’t want to say much, but I want you all to go and conquer Africa as you have conquered West Africa. If you bring the CAF Champions League trophy to Edo State, I won’t tell you what I will do for you, but for doing this I give the entire team, supporting Staff and supporters club one hundred million naira.”
