Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Edo, has attributed the state’s challenges to “lack of leadership”.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, Akpata criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration, describing its governance as “wicked and irresponsible.”

Akpata, who is running in the September 21 off-cycle election, argued that the successes in states like Abia and Anambra underscored the importance of effective leadership.

He expressed dismay over Edo’s deteriorating infrastructure, highlighting the poor condition of Uhiele Grammar School in Esan LGA, which he described as resembling a “war zone.”

“Everything rises and falls on leadership, and it is the absence of leadership that has put us where we are,” Akpata said.

“I have gone round Edo state five times now, and it is the same story across the state. I went to a school, Uhiele grammar school in Esan local government, founded in 1970; it looks like a war zone.”

Akpata also addressed the widespread mistrust among the electorate, acknowledging that the people have lost faith in politicians due to past negative experiences.
