In an ongoing effort to eradicate the remnants of terrorist groups in Northeast Nigeria and secure the region from insurgents and other criminal elements, an early morning airstrike was executed by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on September 11, 2023, in Suwa, located within the Kala Balge Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.
Suwa, formerly a stronghold of Boko Haram terrorists in the Gezuwa general area near Sambisa Forest, had been successfully cleared by the military and various security agencies.
Recent intelligence reports, however, indicated the gathering of terrorists in the vicinity with potential plans to attack patrolling troops along key routes to Bama and Mafa LGAs.
Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, disclosed in an official statement that further intelligence had revealed the same group of terrorists was plotting to assault troops stationed around Rann in Kala Balge LGA.
Consequently, airstrikes were authorized, resulting in the elimination of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their structures, significantly diminishing their capacity to threaten friendly forces and law-abiding civilians.
Gabkwet emphasized that the collective efforts of all security agencies operating in the Northeast had yielded positive results, although ongoing actions were required to maintain the momentum.
He called for the support of all Nigerians for the Armed Forces and other security agencies in their mission to eradicate criminal elements from the region.
For the Air Component Commanders in various joint operating theaters, the directive from the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, remained unequivocal: Pursue these criminals relentlessly and ensure they face justice.
The era of handling them with leniency is a thing of the past.
