NADCEL 2023: Nigerian Army conducts medical outreach in Oja Oba, Mapo Community in Ibadan

As part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2023 (NADCEL), the Nigerian Army (NA) conducted a one-day medical outreach in Oja Oba Community, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday, July 3, 2023.

The event took place at Mapo Hall.

During the flag-off ceremony at Mapo Hall, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), expressed gratitude to the people of Ibadan for their support to the NA.

He explained that the choice of Oja Oba Community for the exercise was a way of giving back to the people of Ibadan for their cooperation and support in fulfilling the NA’s constitutional duties.

Representing the COAS at the ceremony was Major General Zakari Abubakar, the Chief of Transformation and Innovations Army (COTI).

According to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the medical outreach was organized to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Nigerian Army’s establishment.

Major General Zakari Abubakar, on behalf of the COAS, assured the community that the NA would continue to provide opportunities that strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the army and the people.

Pastor Emmanuel Olawale, the Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government Area, expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks, acknowledging the NA’s kind gesture.

He mentioned that the people of Oja Oba community were delighted to have the NA’s medical team present to provide free medical services.

He commended the Army for the outreach and for ensuring the security of lives and property in Ibadan and surrounding areas.

The event attracted a large number of residents who took advantage of the free medical outreach to receive tests and treatments for various ailments, including high blood pressure, diabetes, dental issues, heart conditions, eye problems, and other health challenges. Free medical check-ups were also provided.

The NA distributed free medication, eyeglasses, crutches, and wheelchairs to those with physical disabilities.

Health talks and counseling sessions were conducted to raise awareness in the community about the consequences of substance abuse.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Royal Majesty Oba Olalekan Balogun; Major General Victor Onumajuru, Chief of Special Services and Programs and Chairman of NADCEL 2023; Major General Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division; Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, and other notable individuals.
