Monday Okpebholo has been sworn in as the Governor of Edo State, thus ending the eight-year administration of Mr Godwin Obaseki

The ceremony took place on Tuesday at around 1 pm in Benin, the state capital.

Okpebholo took his oath of office with his running mate, Dennis Idahosa.

Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the off-cycle governorship election held on September 21, securing 291,667 votes.

He defeated his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,274 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came in third with 22,763 votes.

The inauguration was attended by personalities including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and Kwara governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who is the chair of the governors’ forum.
