National Waves publisher Jimmy Enyeh has been named winner of the National Chronicle’s 2025 Award of Courage in Journalism, recognised for years of fearless, investigative reporting in Nigeria.
The award citation described Enyeh as a journalist who has “consistently demonstrated exceptional bravery, integrity and professionalism” while holding power to account despite threats and risks.
“As a seasoned media practitioner and publisher, he has distinguished himself through fearless reporting, unwavering commitment to truth and a resolute stance on holding power to account,” the National Chronicle said. It hailed National Waves as a “credible platform for investigative journalism, public enlightenment, and the amplification of voices.”
Enyeh, who runs the long-standing National Waves newspaper and magazine, is known for conducting thorough, in-depth investigations before publication. Colleagues call him a “media guerrilla fighter” for his refusal to bow to intimidation.
Media scholar Dr. Ambrose Obiyan said Enyeh’s career has been marked by threats, yet he remains unshaken.
“The truth must be said. Enyeh has demonstrated over the years through National Waves that he is not afraid to tell the story of Nigeria’s governance, no matter the enormity of the threat to dissuade him from reporting,” Obiyan said.
Abuja-based reader Isiaka Fache said National Waves is part of his daily routine. “I wake up here in Abuja and the first thing I do is go online to the National Waves website to read juicy stories,” he said.
