Man bags 10 years imprisonment for manslaughterAn Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a man, Samson Michael, to 10 years’ imprisonment for stabbing one Tomilola Osomite to death with a knife.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe handed down the sentence following Michael’s plea bargain agreement to an amended one-count charge of involuntary manslaughter filed against him by the Lagos State Government.

The judge found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.

She also ordered that the sentence be backdated to 2020, the year the convict was remanded in custody.

The Lagos state government had initially charged th convict with murder for stabbing the deceased on Sept. 13, 2018, at No. 3 Mabayoje Close, Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State.

The convict pleaded not guilty upon his initial arraignment, and the prosecution commenced trial.

The State Counsel, Mrs Sola Ojikutu, called witnesses and tendered 16 exhibits before the defendant opted for a plea bargain.

He was subsequently re-arraigned on the amended charge and pleaded guilty to the offence of involuntary manslaughter.
