Kidnapping: Police arrest three suspects, rescue three victims in Ondo

The Police on Tuesday, dragged a 56-year-old man, Olusegun Akinbi before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Sienna car valued at N5.2 million.

The defendant whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on stealing and causing a breach of peace.

He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP. Edet Ekpo, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.24, at Kiki Shopping Plaza, located at Badagry roundabouts in Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant entered into the car stand of a complainant, one Mr Lokokanon Stephen, with an intent to steal.

“The defendant stole one unregistered Toyota Sienna vehicle with chassis number 5PDZK23C9S186939 valued at N5.2 million belonging to the complainant.

“The defendant conducted himself in manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing pandemonium.

“He was later arrested and handed over to Police for prosecution,” he said

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 13, for mention.
