Man, 54, arraigned over alleged laptop scam

The police on Tuesday arraigned 54-year-old Obafemi Ishola before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over an alleged laptop scam.

Ishola, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to charges of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in May in the Okebola area of Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Temilade Ajanaku under the pretext of selling her a Dell laptop, but failed to deliver the item.

He said the defendant instead converted the money to his personal use, thereby committing offences contrary to Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 7 for hearing.
